Greetings Friends,

Natures Little Secrets - Part Two

In the second part of this series, the following are some additional  "less visited " locations  here in the beautiful British Virgin Islands..

Old Government House
A relatively unknown and seldom visited museum in Road Town is the Old Government House, located on Waterfront Drive. Built in 1880, restored in 1926 and then closed as the offiicial Governor's residence in 1996,  the building now houses a museum with period artifacts,  artwork, historical documents and magnificent garden. Some 18th century cannons are on display which are a wonderful photo opportunity.

Generally open weekdays - 9:00 am to 3:00 pm
Call: 1(284) 494-4091 for more info.

VI Maritime Museum
Located on the second floor  at the HLSCC Centre of Applied Marine Studies at Paraquita Bay,  the museum focus's on the early maritime activity within and outside the territory with emphasis on the Tortola Boat, a sloop that is now known to be exclusive to the BVI. A few examples can still be seen today.. Founded in 2005, utilizing photographs and displays,  the museum is dedicated to preserving  the maritime history of the Virgin Islands.

NOTE:  A visit to the BVI Maritime Museum can be combined with Mangrove Boardwalk tour, mentioned in last months newsletter
